My family started the 1000 Hours Outside Challenge this year.
We use the 1000 Hours Outside app to track our progress. But I also wanted to see our progress over time.
- How many hours did we spend outside so far?
- Were we close to our goal? Far?
- Did we have realistic shot at hitting 1000 hours?
To answer these questions, I built out a tracker on Google Sheets.
It worked well for me so I’m publishing it here for anyone to use. Feel free to make a copy for yourself!

How to use the 1000 Hours Goal Tracker
- Make a copy. Make sure you’re your copy. No one else will have access unless you share it!
- Set your goals. You can set your daily goal for each month, for both hours outside and screentime. I set a default daily goal for each month that tallies up to 1000 hours by the end of the year. You should change the goals to whatever works best for you and your family.
- Enter hours spent outside. You’ll track the hours you spend outside every month. Each month has its own tab. I like to do this at the end of each week so the family can see how we’re tracking.
- Track progress over time. In the Tracker tab, you can see your progress over time, and how you’re tracking against your goals.
- Get outside and enjoy the time with your family. That’s what this is about. The tracker is just fun accountability 🙂
Questions? Feedback? What would make this tracker even better? I’m looking to improve it, let me know on Twitter what you’d like to see 🙂
Thanks,
Chris Ming
